Giethoorn

The picturesque village of Giethoorn is sometimes called the Venice of the North. Its main street is a canal, flanked by old farmhouses. Peat used to be processed here, and it was transported by boat. Small boats - punts - were used to navigate the many narrow waterways branching off the main canal.
